Sorry about this but I just have to let of steam to someone! Several months ago, after establishing that RCR operates in Scotland and after hearing excellent reports of them, our little canal society took out gold membership of RCR to cover our trip boat.
The first time we had to call them was today when the boat broke down with a boatload of children and Santa. I phoned both the 0800 and 0845 number on the membership card and with both numbers I got a message saying "number not in use" . We were left stranded with a load of passengers (mainly children) and the next lot of passengers who had booked to cruise with Santa were waiting for the boat to return. Fortunately, the BW guys up here are excellent and a phone call resulted in them bringing out a tug to tow us back to our moorings. Before that, we had "rescued" the passengers with gamebird. We had to cancel our remaining trips and that left lots of disappointed children. I am NOT impressed with RCR and VERY impressed with BW Scotland who had already helped us out today by putting the tug along the canal to break up the ice for us. OK it is Saturday but I don't remember reading anything about RCR not operating at weekends. I feel better now having got this off my chest, as it were. :-) Ann Ann and Iain Street NB Gamebird; One tenth NB Copperkins11 Web site http://www.nbgamebird.co.uk Scottish Inland Waterways Association - http://www.siwa.org.uk Bridge 19-40 Canal Society - http://www.bridge19-40.org.uk Yahoo!
