Nottingham to Burton It had been raining from the early hours of the morning, but it started to stop at 10am. I called Orange to find out if I could get HSDPA on a normal pay-and-go sim, but gave up after 10 minutes of waiting. Went to replace the mouse I bought yesterday as it was a little to fast to be useful, and ended up with a cheapo Microsoft mouse which works fine - but £5 pounds more.
Little to tell in the boating stakes - we got going at 11:40am. There was a moment at Cranfleet where the lady closing the gates for the boat just gone down didn't see us. I sounded a portable air horn - which is pretty loud, and she shouldn't of missed the bow wave as I went flatout. Since she had to close both gates (wide cruiser) she had just closed both gates by the time we reached the end of the jetty. "Oh, I didn't see you", she said. We shared the first Trent and Mersey lock with another boat that pulled in a Shardlow, and did the next two locks on our own. We caught up with another two boats, but one pulled into the water point above the lock. We nicely caught up to the other boat before the next lock and shared with them for the last two wide locks. Stenston was actually ready, just after a single handed boater had been through and just closed the gates. On the exit of the lock the heavens opened and continued to rain on and off for the next 30 minutes after which the air got really cold. It was 13 degrees C outside when we moored up at Snoball at 21:00. Cheers, Mike -- Michael Askin http://shoestring_DOT_zapto_DOT_org/
