This issue reminds me of the charges in Bristol harbour which are based solely on length, it did grate a bit paying something like £25 a night in a narrowboat when moored alongside something which could accomodate dozens of people due to it's width but was no longer. Rather than have an endless debate about widths of 6'10 or 7'2" etc, wouldn't it be easier to define a broad beam boat as one that will not fit in a narrow lock? John
