Hi,

When we went over it three years ago. On the way North no problem, but when
we came to come back over it about 5.00 p.m. the same day It was open for
the Ship Canal with no sign of movements. A crew member climbed over the
fencing and went down to the control cabin. He was told it was set for a
ship due to leave Manchester docks.

We waited for nearly two hours with nothing happening. They then told us
they had had problems at a ship canal lock and the ship had now lost the
tide so would be staying over night in Manchester. So they closed the
aqueduct to let us go over as we were waiting. Behind us they then reopened
it so that the ship could pass through about 5 a.m. without anyone having to
deal with the canal.

All the best,

Martin Reed.
