The approach to our village in the peak District is up a narrow dale. A
few years ago the snowfall was such that it brought down thirteen dead
trees across the road. The gritter came to clear the village and
stopped at the first dead tree whereupon another fell down behid him!
He rapidly turned round, pushed that last tree out of the way and went
on to grit elsewhere - the village was closed off for three days!
