The flywheel on my JP2 is straight and smooth on the surface - did
yours have a grove or two?

Glad I'm buying a new belt - I tried to put the old one back on
removing the broken link as it was a little too long anyway. As I was
tensioning the belt it snapped, so still haven't tried the new
alternator. I did run up the engine which went on the second turn as I
left the fire in during the day and left the doors open to the engine
room.
