The flywheel on my JP2 is straight and smooth on the surface - did yours have a grove or two? Glad I'm buying a new belt - I tried to put the old one back on removing the broken link as it was a little too long anyway. As I was tensioning the belt it snapped, so still haven't tried the new alternator. I did run up the engine which went on the second turn as I left the fire in during the day and left the doors open to the engine room.
