I was surprised at the strength of my reaction when I got the call to
register this morning (because a fellow blogger had listed me as a
friend when he signed up, and he's well over 21, btw). After all, I
advertise my location once every two days by labelling my blog posts
with it, but that's under my control and I can be as specific or as
vague as I choose.
Once persuaded to sign up to Latitude, Google will use your phone to
keep tabs on where you are until you sign out again. They say "only
the last location is stored".
Yes, I thought you'd like that.
It reminded me of the claim when they first introduced reg plate
recognition systems on motorways and major roads, that "Only the
central characters of the plate will be identified". Then we had the
London bombs, and suddenly they could track the bombers' hire car up
and down the M1.
