As our pub experts are assembled a quick question... Walking DOWN Atherstone
locks and heading out to find a pub next to or away from the canal how far is
it to the nearest one. THe reason I ask is that afew years back a couple moored
for the pub by lock 10 Atherstone (as they told me) then, me assuming they
would head back up the locks they went off in the opposite direction and we
never saw them to ask.

Incidentally for super pub grub lovers we moored in our normal spot near the
site of the last BW breach a half mile below Baddiley locks and a bit below the
moorings only to be joined by a chap on a hire boat with no idea about mooring
away from another boat when it was alone in the country, a person who chose to
moor under the only tree in the area which hit him in the face when he came out
the hatch - a fate avoided by moving 10', fantastic posh voice and talk to
peasant manner to us boat owners. (Given all the above we wondered if he was a
senior executive or director of BW.)

Anyway his party of upstanding citizens then decamped and headed off over the
nearest fence (no footpath) through a farmers crop, returning a number of hours
later and waking us up. Next morning I asked him in passing what they were up
to and was told that over there was the best pub resturant in the area a couple
of miles away and that they had had a smashing meal. We left him practising
being smug as in Grimtype thing in the goon show - while standing with his head
in the midst of a leafy oak branch.
