No, the question was "who wrote it originally" and Mr Millin is quite  
correct, it was written by Muir and Norden for a radio comedy sketch.  
A lot of the early Carry On plots and gags were "borrowed" from Muir  
and Norden, that's why they have a quality missing from the later  
efforts.

I'm postponing replying to Roger's post in detail for a while, having  
just frittered the afternoon and evening away servicing the engine,  
cooking dinner and drinking red wine.

Meanwhile, where does this one come from:
