Day 5 - Great Bedwyn to Hungerford This is what the previous almost blank post was meant to say:
Arrived back at the boat last night to find it unmolested and on an even keel. Set off this morning at a civilised 09:40 after ascertaining that a bevy of Welsh women wielding windlasses passing on the towpath were on their way to set Burnt Mill Lock. In the end their boat failed to arrive and they set the lock for us and nb Nanshe with whom we shared locks down to the VMs above Hungerford Lock. Arrived in time for a light lunch, a snooze, a bit of light reading and some food shopping. Light rain on and off but not enough to discourage us from a perambulation around Freemans Marsh in the gloaming. During the day I have fitted new air and fuel filters supplied with commendable promtitude by the Marine Engine Co of Uxbridge [thanks to the good Cap'n for the recommendation]. The paper air filter instead of the previouly installed offshore washable one has made the engine noticeably quieter. Still noisy, though. 4mi 5fl; 9 locks; 2 swingbridges; 3.69 engine hours Baz
