For anyone who cruises through the summer the arithmetic of having a full time mooring is becoming unfeasible, and for this I'm afraid BW and greedy marina owners are to blame.
I am in the fortunate position of only paying for a mooring while I'm there, but this winter it hasn't been possible to go back to my usual spot and so I've had to look out for another. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've been offered hundreds all over the country. Shortage of mooring spaces? Don't you believe it. This is a tale drummed up by BW and the marina owners to hike prices. My advicewould be, if you can, to cruise during the summer and take a mooring for the winter. If you can't get better, a BW towpath mooring is always a dependable fallback. But then again, so is tieing up just the far side of a mooring spot where you can rest assured you will left untroubled until the Spring.
