I'm actually working on a couple of Capistrano new features. I contacted Jamis on January and he gave me some good ideas about how implement them. Unfortunately, it seems I finished them too late.
All the features are available in my Capistrano fork on github. http://github.com/weppos/capistrano The template_paths one is not finished yet and needs more unit tests. I've some additional recipes available as a Gist. Jonathan, I would be more than happy to give an help to ensure Capistrano is not going to be lost along the way.
