We use a netbooted NFS setup, and all our R1s and R2s (18 or so of them) boot over the network and mount the file systems (shared) from a server. It works well for us. We have SSH access to them, and it's easy to propagate a new BOF file by simply dropping it into the shared bof directory on the server. I don't really like the idea of treating the R2 as a toaster, either. :) John > > > T > > > ________________________________ > From: Marc Welz [m...@ska.ac.za] > Sent: Monday, March 30, 2015 2:17 AM > To: Madden, Timothy J. > Cc: casper@lists.berkeley.edu > Subject: Re: [casper] Roach 2 telnetd > > > > On Fri, Mar 27, 2015 at 4:44 PM, Madden, Timothy J. > <tmad...@aps.anl.gov<mailto:tmad...@aps.anl.gov>> wrote: > I am trying to start telnetd on a roach2 booting from the local flash. > > I added > telnetd > > to /etc/rc.local > > When I do a ps -a, no telnet is listed... > Also I cannot telnet to it. > > What happens if you run telnetd from the commandline (via the serial > connection ?) > > regards > > marc >
