A trick from one of my Knot Tying and Splicing books..
Fuse the two ends of Manmade fiber lines together.
Using a propane lighter or a soldering iron, Melt the two ends, Press together while still soft, finish with a few stiches of thread or small stuff.
Secure and quite strong. I swapped out the main halyard using this method
And...
I'm using that method on my Furling line to have Larger diameter line for Handing while the smaller line is in the drum. I cut a short section off the end of the Larger then I skinned back the Outter cover of the large, melted/fused the ends, slipped the Outter cover over the Smaller line, stiched and Whipped....It's held nicely for almost 10 years.
