I checked my mainsheet blocks yesterday and found that indeed, they have
locking screws. There are actually two apposed locking screws. I did not
have the correct screwdriver with me, so will lock them down next time.
They are not Sheafer blocks, but some other USA brand starting with a "S."

Also while there I measured my halyards. It seems that the PO must have
purchased a spool of 3/8" polyester double braid and just replaced
everything with it. So the jib halyards bind in the mast sheaves, and
the mainsheet is too stiff to "run" through the blocks. So on my
Christmas list there will be New England Regatta Single Brade for the
mainsheet and some Sta-Set X jib halyards. (The Catalina book specifies
5/16 halyards and 3/8 sheets)

Anyone have a good way of binding new to old halyards such that I can
pull the new ones through without loosing the end somewhere in the
middle half up the mast?
