I had the same problem with the ice box with my "new" 1979 C27 last year, but didn't feel like dismantling the galley quite yet. I went to Home Depot's insulation department and bought a sheet of pink foam and cut to fit inside the box. Lost a little space, but the difference was worth it. Cheap too.
