And yet another tip.
Use the PTFE "Impregnated"
Packing (not the Coated one) .. And be sure to get a tube of PTFE
Grease (Teflon stuff)
I'll be messy to install but
worth it. See West Marine catalog.
Advantage ? While
the engine is idle, the grease acts as a water block and little or no
water drips. As soon as the shaft moves the grease warms and allows some
water to lubricate the shaft and a small drip passes.
I like the idea of No drips while
the boat isn't being run. No pump action at all for weeks..
And, it's a lot cheaper than
having a Dripless installed.
