That's where we'll use it. If there is an overlap, we'll have the
stringers going all the way across.

Lance. Where do you plan to use the double? I recall earlier you
were talking about expanding the starboard berth. In my 1989 C-27 I
already have an expandable starboard berth, but when fully deployed it
is too narrow for a double (43" wide at the head and 36" at the foot),
which is why I'm planning to use Lori's cross-cabin set-up.

Jeff,
We are going to use a Double Mattress as well. On our
C-22, we had a queen size and it was frankly too big. As we like to
cuddle when sleeping, a double will be plenty.

Thanks Lori. This is helpful. I'd love to see
some more pics, especially of the stringers in place and a close-up of
the cutouts and of the rounded(?) ends of the stringers.
FWIW, I'm thinking of using a double-size air
mattress, which should fit nicely widthwise. Most are 54 inches, and I
measure a 55-inch width of the narrower (port) settee. Lengthwise it may
be a bit of a squeeze. Most mattresses are 74 inches, and I measure 70
inches at the short (fore) side of the new berth. But I'm thinking it
should work if I keep the mattress slightly under-inflated.
Anyway, thanks again.

Jeff,
they were 2x4s cut down and rounded
along one side to fit into the stringer notches, 5 all together, each
slightly different in length to account for the curved width. I
attached a pic of how the inside looks bedless (I left the photo pretty
big so you can see detail). If you look closely you can see the cutouts
for the stringers with the topping strip. The wide trim strips
lengthwise under each berth were replaced with thicker mahogany but
level with the berth, with a removable finishing trim that fits in with
dowels along the top so there is a lip for the cushions again.
I'm planning to visit my boat this
weekend for a fix and will take a few photos to put on my somewhat
neglected website.

Lori. What size boards did you use for
stringers? How many stringers do you have? Thanks.
