Yes - the breaker protects the whole circuit, and is in effect just a switch 
with an overcurrent protective device (and a GFCI, optionally).

Tbis is the console I made for my boat.  The black thing with the white handle 
is my shore power breaker - note it has two poles - this breaks both lines, 
which is important on a boat because you never know who wired the marina you 
are tied up at, and which conductor is hot.  It also has a light that indicates 
reverse polarity (switched ground and hot conductors, for the same reason).  
This one is not a GFCI breaker, but you'll see the receptacle next to it is.  
All of the other receptacles on my boat are wired through this, thus all are 
protected.
