Ah, OK. On my boat (1989) the cockpit drains directly through the stern via hoses. Although, here's a related mystery: my port lazerette cockpit locker, where I store cleaning supplies and assorted gear, almost always has a few inches of gunky liquid at the bottom. By "gunky" I mean dark colored, sometimes almost black, and it tends to be slimy. When I first noticed it, I suspected one of the cleaning products had leaked, but that was not the case. Since this is the same locker that houses my batteries, which sit in a separate well at the front of the locker, I next suspected a battery leak. But that was not it. I dabbed my finger in it and it tastes salty, which suggests it's sea water and not a collection of rainwater. I've checked all the hoses and apertures that pass through the locker and can find no leaks. Every now and then I clean out the locker and mop it up with a big sponge, but if I let it go to long it gets really gooey. The volume of liquid has never amounted to much, but it's a nuisance. Sheler ahem <cough> What is the wet locker? Jeff I had a similar problem. Starboard side toward aft cabin. When it rained especially during the winter months I had a dripping dark brown gunky liquid slowly dripping down the side of the cabin. I was told this type of leak is not good because water is getting into the wood core (brown color) between lawyers of fiberglass. Over the four years that I had the boat I sealed and resealed windows, stanchions, etc. Nothing solved the problem. I knew at the time I purchased the boat the deck area aft of the anchor locker was soft and the surveyer suggested this softness extended down the deck near the toe rail on the starboard side. During the spring of 2006 while getting the boat ready for the season I was inspecting also a clean water leak flowing into the port hanging locker along the storage shelf in the V berth. The leak was coming from aft of the anchor locker inside the cabin. On close inspection of the anchor locker I found the top portion of the aft wall of the locker had never been finished. This area just under the aft deck lip of the anchor locker the fiberglass was porous and water was seeping/flowing through the glass. I sealed it with 4200 and both of my leaking problems vanished.
