Your choose of start and finish grit depends on how the paint was applied (start) and how fast you want to go (finish) If the paint was brushed on and you just do "beer can" races, you can start with 100 and finish with 220. If some NOOD regattas or maybe the Capri nats are in your future and the paint was sprayed, you might want to start with 220 and finish (after 1000) with a fine "scotch bright" pad. At any rate you will want to do the sanding wet.
