At the beginning of the 2007 season I purchased my Catalina 27. Her old
name (shall remain nameless by tradition) had to go. I did the research and
learned the basic principal is first to remove ALL copies/references to the
old name. Then you have a remove the old name ceremony where you ask
Neptune to strike the old name from his logs. Then a naming ceremony. Ours
included family and friends. We paid homage to Neptune and his 4 winds by
pouring some good Alcohol to each over the boat's rail. Then we had the
senior family member break a bottle of champagne over the bow (my mom tried
and tried but in the end it was me who was able to break the "breakaway"
bottle). This was followed by a large family party. It seems to have
worked for me.

Hail Members,

I know that I read the answer this question several years ago but my memory
is fading and the e-records are trashed, so, I apologize for the redundancy.

What is the proper way to rename a boat that has recently been purchased,
without incurring the curse of Neptune?

Thanks in advance

Ted
