Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

4/9: 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen at VanDyne Spoor Road. Over the
nest two days the number grew to four birds.
4/10: 2SANDHILL CRANES were spotted along the wildlife drive. An EURASIAN
WIGEON was seen along Railroad Road and was seen also on the 11th.
4/11: A SANDHILL CRANE was seen at Carncross Road. SORA, VIRGINIA RAIL,
and AMERICAN BITTERN were all found at Marten’s Tract.
Seven species of shorebirds have shown up in the greater complex
locations. They include GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, PECTORAL SANDPIPER,
LEAST SANDPIPER, KILLDEER, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, and DUNLIN.
Derby Hill
------------
Cold weather slowed the flight in the latter part of the week. 2,409
raprtors were counted. The first BROAD-WINGED HAWKS and another BLACK VULTURE
sere seen on 4/09.
Oswego County
------------
The Phillips Point (Oneida Lake) morning count was productive this week.
Highlights were all 3 SCOTERS, RED NECKED GREBE, and BONAPARTE’S GULL.
Madison County
------------
4/12: 10 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 3 COMMON SNIPE, and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL were seen at Ditchbank Road north of Chittenango.
Onondaga County
------------
4/11: 2 PINE SISKINS were seen at a feeder in Skanateles.
Oneida County
------------
4/09: A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was found at the Rome Sand Plains.
4/10: A RED-NECKED GREBE was found in Chitting Pond in the Town of
Sangerfield.
