Greetings! This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of September 
13 , 2010

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     9/14: 2 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen in the new shorebird area along 
the wildlife trail. The RUFF was seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. 9 Warbler 
species 
and a PHILADELPHIA VIREO were seen on Howland Island.
     9/16: The IBIS species (still no positive ID) waw seen at May’s Point Pool.
     9/17: The LITTLE BLUE HERON and IBIS sp. were seen at May’s Point Pool. 6 
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were at the entrance to the Visitor
‘s Center. BAIRD’S and STILT SANDPIPERS and the RUFF were at Knox-Marsellus 
Marsh. Also 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. Overall the number of shorebird species is 
down considerably from two weeks ago.
     9/18: The IBIS and LITTLE BLUE HERON were still present at May’s Point 
Pool.
     9/19: 8 SORA were heard along the Wildlife Trail. A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was 
found too. The IBIS was seen at May’s Point Pool and 2 SANDHILL CRANES were 
seen 
in Puddler’s Marsh.
     9/20: The LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at May’s Point Pool. Neither the Ibis 
or Ruff were found.


Onondaga County
------------

     9/13: 6 species of Warbler were found at Willow Bay on Onondaga Lake.
     9/14: A MERLIN was seen at Green Lakes State Park.
     9/16: On this day and the next 5 Warbler species were seen along the Erie 
Canal Trail in Fayetteville.
     9/19: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen at Three Rivers WMA.


Oswego County
------------

     9/15: YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS were seen at Hastings and Noye’s 
Sanctuary.
     9/17: 8 Raptor species were seen at Bishop Hill Road north of Pulaski 
including 255 BROADWINGS.
     9/18: 6 species of Shorebird and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON were seen at 
Sandy Pond.
