Greetings: This is the Syracuse Rare Bird Alert for the week of October 17, 
2015.
Highlights--------------
RED-THROATED LOONAMERICAN BITTERNCACKLING GOOSEBRANTROSS’S GOOSEGREATER

Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)------------  
     Shorebird species were down to eight this week. I guess all good things 
must come to an end. The bulk again came from the Visitor’s Center and Wildlife 
Drive but also from Tschache Pool, VanDyne Spoor Road and the Loop Road Unit 
north of Rt. 31.     10/22: 10 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen in the marsh on 
VanDyne Spoor Road. 4 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 5 SANDHILL CRANES and an early 
LAPLAND LONGSPUR were noted from the Loop Road Unit north of Rt. 31.     10/23: 
11 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were reported from Morgan Road.

Cayuga county------------
     10/19: All three SCOTER species were seen at Fair Haven State Park.

Onondaga County------------
     10/24: A late LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen at  the South Meadow Nature Area 
in Tully. 2 SURF SCOTERS and a BLACK SCOTER were seen at Beaver Lake west of 
Baldwinsville.

Oswego County------------
     10?22: A RED PHALAROPE and a PARASITIC JAEGER were seen from the bluff at 
Derby Hill.     10/23: 6 PARASITIC JAEGERS, 3 BLACK-LEGGED KITTYWAKES, 3 
RED-THROATED LOONS and all three SCOTERS were seen from the bluff at Derby 
Hill. Good numbers of BRANT were seen also.

Madison County------------
     10/18: A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was still being seen at Woodman Pond. 
    10/19: A ROSS’S GOOS was seen and photographed at woodman Pond It was 
reported up to the 23rd. A negative report came in this afternoon.

Oneida County------------
     10/19: A late SWAINSON’S THRUSH was seen at Spring Farms Nature Center 
south of Clinton.

Herkimer County------------
     10/20: A late AMERICAN BITTERN was seen at the Castle Road Pond north of 
Fairfield.
