Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)------------ It looks like Shorebird season is finally over at Montezuma but now we turn our attention to waterfowl. In excess of 20 species were reported this week highlighted by TRUMPETER SWAN, EURASIAN WIGEON and CACKLING GOOSE. 10/26: A MERLIN was seen along the Wildlife Drive. 10/29: PINE SISKINS were seen at the Visitor’s Center. 14 SANDHILL CRANES were seen from East Road. 10/30: A CACKLING GOOSE and an EURASIAN WIGEON were reported from the Wildlife Drive. Cayuga County------------ 10/20: A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen from the east breakwall at Fair Haven State Park. Onondaga County------------ 10/24: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen on Beaver Lake. 10/29: Two TRUMPETER SWANS were seen on Beaver Lake. 10/30: A late BLACKPOLL WARBLER was seen on the west shore trail at Onondaga Lake. Oswego County------------ 10/24: A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen at Deer Creek Marsh. 10/26: 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen at a feeder along Rt. 17 in Willianstown. Up to 15 were seen during the next days. They were seen on the 30th but were missed today. 10/27: An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was found at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Oswego. 10/29: A SAW-WHET OWL was heard at a residence on Kibbe Road west of Mexico. 10/31: All three SCOTERS and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR were found at Oswego Harbor. Madison County------------ 10/25: A CACKLING GOOSE and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE were seen on Woodman Pond. 10/26: A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was found on Gee Road north of Chittenango. 10/27: The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was relocated at Gee Road but has not been seen since. A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen on Ditchbank Road. 10/228: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Eden Hollow Road. 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on North Main street north of Canastota. Oneida County------------ 10/30: A CACKLING GOOSE and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE were seen on Allen Road south of Clayville. Herkimer County------------ 10/24: Two very rare for Region 5 BARNACLE GEESE and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE were spotted and well photographed at a pond on Cederville Road in the Town of Litchfield. The BARNACLE GEESE were observed and photographed by many birders up to 10/29. Attempts on 10/30 and today have turned up empty. The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was more cooperative and also showed up at other locations in the area. Up to 9 CACKLING GEESE have been seen in the area also. 10/25: Up to 12 EVENING GROSBEAKS have been seen at a feeder north of Dolgeville.
