The geese were flying south east, not south west.

On Wednesday about 3:30pm in the hamlet of Fayette, Seneca County, I saw
several large flocks, perhaps 1,000+, flying south west. Yesterday on the way
to Geneva and later Waterloo, we saw large flocks in the fields in several
places. An especially large flock near the intersection of route 96a and route
336.

For those who wondered whether the Snow Geese have returned, Reuben Stoltzfus
just called me to reassure folks that for the past week tens of thousands of
them have been feeding in cornstubble fields from Lodi north through Ovid to
the 414-96 split (where another Amish birder he knows counted 30k flying over),
and probably beyond. He said there were 5k in the air both northbound and
southbound at his farm in Ovid as he spoke.
