Found the Bug related to this problem.

Bug id # CSCsg95361

7936 phones intermittently fails to upgrade to new load
Symptom:
7936 phones fail to upgrade to a different load when upgrade is attempted immediately after re-registration to CCM. This situation happens when the phones unregister first due to callmanager getting restarted or upgraded.


Conditions:
The 7936 phones running either cmterm_7936.3-3-1-0.bin or cmterm_7936.3-3-2-0.bin loads can fail to upgrade to new load if the phones first unregister from CCM, followed by re-registration and firmware upgrade attempt.

Workaround:
Change the default load on the CCM to cmterm_7936.3-3-3-0.bin or newer and upgrade the 7936 phones without stopping CCM service first.
If the phones experience this problem due to proactive workaround not performed, power cycling the phone recovers them in most cases.

Further Information
This problem was fixed first to address the issue reported by CSCed26422, but the phones coming out from manufacturing were not updated to newer load, thereby increasing the chances of failure

I had the same issue in the past.  I was able to update the firmware using a CME box, but Call Manager never worked.  Ended up doing a RMA for three 7936’s with this issue so that they would boot and register with the Call Manager.  It was basically a bug with the 7936 being at an older firmware version.

I have done everything and more what you guys have mentioned below.

 

One strange thing is that I am not seeing any TFTP requests from the phone at the gateway/switch when it reboots.

 

I just want to upgrade firmware without using call manager.

 

One more thing, other 7936 phones hooked into the same port works fine.

I think if somehow I can upgrade the firmware, I may resolve the issue.

If you have put a newer image on the cucm server make sure you have restarted the tftp service. The server will not recognize new files until the service has restarted.

2. make sure that the DHCP server give the correct TFTP server IP address
3. try to Manually set the TFTP IP address to the 7936

I am trying to make one 7936 conference phone for  a customer to register with call manager.

No matter what I do, it is not getting registered. It says ‘ TFTP server not found’.

I can ping the IP address of the phone from Call manager and from phone I can ping rest of the network. All good.

For some reason it’s not downloading the firmware from Call manager and hence stuck in a loop.

 

Is there any way of getting a new Firmware on to this phone without downloading it from the CallManager?
