Thanks for posting this. On a debian system (Ubuntu) I just did
this to install xds:
% wget
http://apt.bioxray.dk/rhel/el4/i386/RPMS.xray/xds-2005-1.may.1.2.el4.mok.i386.rpm
% sudo alien -d xds-2005-1.may.1.2.el4.mok.i386.rpm
xds_2005-2_i386.deb generated
% sudo dpkg -i xds_2005-2_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package xds.
(Reading database ... 229943 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking xds (from xds_2005-2_i386.deb) ...
Setting up xds (2005-2) ...
There is probably a more elegant way, but it shows that linux is pretty
flexible.
