Does this tie you down to buy a Windows PC ? I mean if you receive Money
from Bill you can only buy a Windows PC or can you buy whatever you
think is necessary to do the job e.g. buy a Windows computer, do format
C and install Ubuntu.
Just to add more to this topic those of you not being Mac aficionados
might not be aware of the possibility to run XP, Linux and Mac OSX on
your new MacIntel computer (not in parallel, but on different
partitions, unless using Virtual PC). I don't know why one would like
to run XP on a Mac, but you can if you really need to - maybe for some
games at the beamline, or to convince funding agencies ????
The wealth of free & useful software you can get on the Mac is pretty
amazing you can find tons of it here; www.versiontracker.com.
The only program which I don't have on my Mac is Grasp - but there are
other options to represent an electrostatic potential.
