but the among upsides, knowing you are using the most up-to-date
version and not having to install anything, for me outweigh the
downside.
in any case, now the molprobity server seems to work again (yesterday
and this morning it didn't for me) and whatcheck here also works:
http://swift.cmbi.ru.nl/servers/html/index.html
and has additional functionalities
although I found the biotech server, which ran many tests
automatically, more convenient in some respects.

Well, nobody's let me in on any anti-validation conspiracy (which
make sense, seeing as I don't write validation software). But
Molprobity runs fine on a local system, and is very easy to
configure. PDB-ADIT (which you didn't mention) can also be
configured to run locally, but it takes more work (hopefully this'll
be improved when the next version is released).
But I guess you've found one of the downsides of using websites to
do data processing.

Subject: [ccp4bb] anti-Validation conspiracy
Dear All,
There seems to be some anti-validation conspiracy going on:
I would like to run Molprobity (http://molprobity.biochem.duke.edu/),
but with the following result:
Safari can't open the page "http://molprobity.biochem.duke.edu/"
because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, which
sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open
the page later.
When trying WhatCheck (http://biotech.embl-ebi.ac.uk:8400/), the
result is:
The Biotech service is discontinued due to hardware retirement outside
our control. We apologize for the inconvenience this might cause.
Then trying Procheck (ok, I know, the previous two are more up-to-
date) from CCP4 6.0.2 locally (installed yesterday!), the program
hangs indefintely in the "proclean" step...
Who's behind this, the authors of a fourth validation suite?
Mark
PS the authors of the validation program who first fix their problems
will most likely earn the citation in the paper we are writing...
