Maybe it is a problem that you switched the drive to the the PD model.
In this mode, the drive behaves to what it really is: A Panasonic phase
change disk and a CD-ROM.

CD-ROM on Lun 0 

PD on Lun 1

THis will most likely not work as I remember that SUn does not yet
support Optical memory in their drivers.

Solaris 8 should write to LUN 0 it the drive identifies as rewritable CD-ROM
