I have a working CDD2600, which rose from the dead after I took your
advice and put a few microdots of lube on the guide rail and my own
advice to dot a few other moving parts. I hardly ever use it, having a
large assortment of newer and faster drives, but it did work last month,
I had to write a CD for some while far away, and that machine is
accesable.

I can run a test if you can give me a Linux shell script using bash, and
a pointer to the source for the software you want tested. The system was
once upon a time Slackware, running a 2.4.5-ac5 (or so) kernel.

I will be at that location Jun 30 and Jul 4 installing a new server,
after that maybe the weekend of the 13-15th, which may be very busy.
