Since my LG 8080B (firmware version 1.05) refuses to write certain 12x and 16x CD-R
media at 8x
(almost all I've tried) there is a need for me to update its firmware.
The problem is that the "update" is a program (*.exe) which has to run under Win-Doze
just to create
a boot-floppy which will do the firmware update.
I don't have any MS-Ware installed and will not buy a Win-Doze copy just to update my
CD-ReWriter.
I have also found a firmware update at
http://de.lgservice.com/bin/dnloadv.exe/shrink8080lg106.zip?/home/gcsmsvc/dat/SWL/att/KRSWL000/KRSWL000012/KRSWL000012371-b1-a1.zip
pointed to from
http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/cdr/cdrf.htm
The contained files seem rather old (aug/oct 2000) but can run under DOS (and I am
able to get a copy of it. ;-) ).
My questions are:
- has anyone tried one these updates successfully, and which of them works?
- if the first (*.exe, probably newer) one is somehow better, can I use WINE to create
the boot-floppy?
Thanks for all
Kind regards
Carsten
