It was me who did the softare update from 1.05 to 1.07.
But this was since I wasn't able to burn most CD-Rs at 8x.
Sorry that I never told about the successful update, but I first wanted to do
extensive tests.
And the only CD-Rs I've burned since then were simple data CDs.

I cannot remember any problems with TAO mode.
The only serious problems I had - and still have - are related to certain TOC files for
cdrdao. They give 100% reproducible hardware-errors at the end of certain
(audio-)tracks.

Could anyone tell me if this is a known problem, if it's (still) a firmware bug, a bug
in cdrdao or
a sg driver error in the kernel, or whatever?

BTW: I have several audio CDs with no pause between certain tracks.
I want to make exact copies of them, and the only program which seemed suitable for
this was cdrdao.
Is cdrecord able to burn CDs with no pause at all between tracks and if I can convert
cdrdao
TOC/DATA file pairs into a format which can be used by cdrecord?

Thanks to all who helped, especially to Dave Platt

Kind regards

        Carsten
