Since other drives last just fine, I think quality control is the issue. I still have Philips 2600 which works fine, but slowly. Joerg told me about the clean and lube cycle, and I performed maintenence once using some very high quality non-gumming silicone enhanced oil. Now it works fine, although I only burn 1-2 CD/month. I think short lifespan is more an issue than case design. I have burners in three other machines in the same office suite, all faster, so I only use it when I'm backing up stuff on the SMB network, rather than move it to a faster machine. -- -bill davidsen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) "The secret to procrastination is to put things off until the last possible moment - but no longer" -me -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
