Although Obama isn't living up to all my fears, he is living up
to some of them.
He is a major improvement as far as not being an embarrassment
when he
opens his mouth, like W. And a number of his appointments
-Gates, especially-
have been welcome. But it is disconcerting to be apprehensive
day in and day out,
wondering when the other show will drop Re: all the things
about which
fears are justified.
One major concern is the reported fact ( I'm not sure how true
this is ) that
OHB never uses the words "Islam" or "Islamic" when discussing
terrorists.
If he can't bring himself to be honest about Islam, then we all
are in trouble
more than anyone may now think,
Oh, yeah. His favorables are in the tank in Israel ( 10% range )
and there
are major worries in India. Even the Politically Correct Times
of India has been
expressing doubts of various kinds. I don't see where optimism
is realistic at this time.

I thought the common knowledge was that GWB was a diplomatic disaster
and that with Obama's sophisticated world view and diplomatic finesse
bolstered by his personal charm America's place in the world would
quickly improve. That seemed to be the view of some in this forum. I
mean, the guy is brilliant!
The opposite might prove to be true. I don't think Obama is quite
living in reality (although I am sure he's learning that by now). He's
not up for the job, period. I guess it's not really about IQ after
all.
