I donno. anything from Congressman on up and a school admin breaks out in a cold sweat. What it all means is reputation among alumni, local worthies, donors, and the political establishment in a district or state. Hell, when I was teaching in Kentucky we all were keenly aware of the status of the County Judge. The school where I taught hired the son-in-law of a former ( but still important ) former governor, and the daughter. Bert Combs, the former guv, sometimes flew in via helicopter. The school also was attuned ( like a symphony orchestra ) to the politics of our Congressman, even if, to be sure, with his seniority he was a big shot nationally.
