Title: "Free speech is meant to protect unpopular speech
Well then, allow me to continue: The stimulus that hasn't, Government Motors, AIG, Chrysler, Countrywide, WAMU, Wachovia, Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae. Freddie and Fannie brought to you by Barney Fife, I mean Franks.

Want me to go on??

The Senator that whined about Bush's $400 Billion dollar deficit in 2008 is now President with a $1,400 billion dollar deficit. Hell, he's made Bush look GOOD on that front.

True, the Admin has made health care a signature issue, but there is a lot more
to the WH and its policies than that bill.

What I am curious about is what the possibilities for marketing in government are.
We have the administration we have, but there will be others, Thus, what is the
role of marketing in governing ?  Or maybe more like it, what can its role become
considering that so little is done with it now.?  If someone in marketing was
making a proposal to Administration X, what would it say ?

I'm a social scientist, hence my interest.

But I do remember a joke I heard some place. Texas humor.

A freshly minted college grad was applying for a job in Dallas or Houston
or someplace. The personnel manager said. "it isn't often we get someone
with a degree in socialism here."  " But my degree is in sociology."
"Well, we both know its the same thing."

Ha ha ha, ho, ho.. Actually it isn't, but I get the point.

You can only put so much lipstick on a couple of 2000 page plus pieces of legislation. After a while it looks gaudy.

Maybe good or great marketing can get somebody to buy a s**t sandwich; but not if the sense of smell has kicked in.

One thing is for sure, during the 2008 campaign the Obama team had
expert marketers working for them. Not that marketing can play the
exact same role as part of governance, but marketing as such seems to
be AWOL as an Admin function. Why ?  Seems strange.

A very good analysis. I don't know if any of them are "true", but that is more-or-less beside the point; they have enough contact with reality that if things go badly (as they seem to be at the moment) these stories will gain traction.

Of course, if things go well, they'll fade into obscurity.  Like I always say:

11.    The Converged Law:
Eventually, marketing and reality must converge.
Good marketing delays convergence; Great marketing alters reality.
