I wholeheartedly agree, while i was at uni you had some students who (when
we were given a choice) would use Java for everything others like myself
where possible would use HTML at every given oppurtunity(as the web is where
i wanted to work). What i found was that what people did for their final
year projects decided whether or not they got a job.
Those of us who built web based applications like myself (in asp) found it
easier to get interviews and jobs for web based work. Those that did banking
type applications in Java found it easier to get interviews for city
firms. Those students who had no focus/area of speciality and created a final
year project which demonstrated no skills or final products which are
applicable to the industry they wished to work in had a very hard time.
On the basis of my final year project i got a Coldfusion job and i didnt
even know coldfusion as soon as i got the job i went straight to the shop
and got the Forta book!
Just my 2pence
