True, but again that decision lies primarily with MAFF. I also read that
due to EU quota evaluations (or something like that) there was a lot of
'illegal' movement of animals around the country at the time to bump up
headcounts on farms which helped to spread the virus.
I think this whole crisis will result in a complete re-evaluation of
farming in the UK. Currently it appears to have higher clout than Tourism,
when in fact, Tourism provides a far more significant income. This was a
financial crisis and as such it should be looked at in a wholey financial
way. In which Farmers 0 Tourism 100.
An interesting side-note on subsidies is the World Trade Organisations
take on these. I think they are taking the stance that these are
effectively illegal. I think Argentina is particularly unhappy, because in
principal they would be able to compete in the Beef trade if it wasn't for
the subsidies. We shall see where this all goes.

I agree with much of what was said but the continuing will they/won't they
about vaccination has been really unhelpful, and the failure to ban
livestock movements for 4 days after the first confirmed outbreak was
unforgivable.
