My previous post went like this:

We aren't dirtying the planet, at least not in relation to other countries.
We are a net *consumer* of CO2, while the rest of the world is a net
*emitter*. If one accepts that both the globe is warming up rapidly and
that the world's net gain of CO2 is a culprit, then it is largely Europe's
fault, not ours.
