I think the problem with taking little to no action is that it will put a
big open season sign on the US. I think many terrorists and "Rogue nations"
have been afraid of retaliation from us, and if we do little or nothing now
the world will see that it's ok to pull this stuff on the US like it is
around the rest of the world.
I think harsh, severe retribution is required to ensure that this doesn't
happen again. If it is found or decided that Bin Laden is responsible, and
Afghanistan wants to keep him, then sever military action needs to take
place. Yes many innocent Afghani's would be killed, but the message needs to
be "If I attack America, they will come for me with a vengeance and even
attack the country harboring me."
I think a third world war would be unlikely, possible, but unlikely.
Afghanistan would fall quickly to an all out assault, that left them in no
way capable of fighting back. Sad as it may be, unfair even, they may need
to be martyrs to the ad campaign that says, "F with America and we will get
you, no matter what."
And I'd be 100% OK with that, the thing that scares me is that if we do
nothing we end up living under constant attacks. we need to assert that this
type of behaviors is NOT acceptable and will NOT be tolerated, and if it
means we gotta kick someone's butt six ways to Sunday well then get the heck
out of the way.

Believe me, if America dusts off its nuclear weapons the rest of the world
will not sit by and watch, everything possible would be done to persuade you
to back off.
What happened yesterday was truly awful, but similar things (on a smaller
scale but far more frequently) have been happening worldwide for many
years - last week there was a bomb thrown at children going to school in
Ireland for example. America has just had a huge wake-up call, you are not
immune to terrorism and must now learn to handle it. You are desperately
hunting around for someone to retaliate against but terrorist organisations
do not provide a good target, members are spread out worldwide hidden in
innocent communities and using sophisticated communication systems to
protect their identities even from each other. They will have planned for a
possible American response and will almost certainly have counter measures
in place themselves, I don't want to sound alarmist but you have to realise
that this is a very different enemy you are facing than any you have met
before and knee jerk responses will play right into their hands.
Watching the reports yesterday I saw images that shocked me to the core, I
never want to have to see anything like it again but bombing the crap out of
the first available target and risking a third world war is not the answer.
