without religion.

Subject: RE: The Jesus Landing Pad
Tell me, what purpose would Religion play in our lives if Man could
literally live forever?
Assume that we invent nano technology that is able to repair our cells
and that we crack the ageing code, so our cells do not have a finite
lifespan after which they self destruct.
Therefore to 'die' would require extensive damage to the human organism
through external means. Perhaps disease- though nano programming would
work to destroy foreign organisms whether bacterial or viral- but
definitely sudden violent injury would no doubt produce death
regardless.
So people would die, though far less regularly. Death would become the
exception rather than the norm.
What purpose would mankind have for religion in this case?
What purpose would we have for a 'God' ?
What reason would we have to defer our happiness through suffering to
some 'Afterlife'?
For the majority of people, life actually becomes depressing if you
think of current existence throughout the world without a God and an
Afterlife...doesn't it.
How to tell the people living in poverty on the streets, or starving on
the plains of Africa, or living in one of many overcrowded slums in
India, or suffering through potential life imprisonment in Guantanamo
Bay ,not to believe in something better when they die?
Another failing of our Human society.
Humans defer working to solve problems to a God. God will provide. God
will save us. God will turn their hearts and make them see reason. God
is merciful.
Because it's so much easier than solving our own problems.

Agreed.
Also there are people like me - My childhood consisted of years of abuse
(and I am getting a bit personal here) mental, physically, sexual...very
dark days...
Religion gave me hope, peace and love in my life, that had I not been
introduced to it, I don't think I would be alive today.
So there is good in it.
