I don't think Dr. Connors was missing his arm in this movie. But he
does eventually (in the comics), and tries to experiment with reptile
dna to see if he can't regenerate his arm...which does lead to him
becoming the Lizard. And yes, very cool tie-in.
I didn't see any others tho. I don't think the boy helping Aunt May
move represented anything other than an opportunity for Aunt May to
launch into her "everybody needs a hero" speech. The Russian
chick...don't recognize her as being an established comic character.
I'll go with Dana on that and say she was just there to give Peter an
opportunity to see what 'normal' life would be like.
I think the movie overall was amazing, and I went in with high
expectations too. Unfortunately, I saw it at the 'Cine Capri' (theater
here in Scottsdale, AZ where the screen is like 17 miles wide and 13
miles high...and I was in the 4th row). I'm not sure if the nausea I
felt throughout the movie was due to the pizza and onion rings I bought
(and rapidly devoured) before the movie or being that close to such a
large screen showing such a...kinetic movie. I do want to see it
again..on a smaller screen, preferrably from farther away.
My only problem was the mask coming off as often as it did. I didn't
mind it coming off in front of Harry (or Harry taking it off), since
that follows comic book history. I didn't even mind Mary Jane seeing
him without the mask (I just didn't expect it so soon in the series).
But I didn't like a train full of people seeing him without the
mask...nor did I like him pulling the mask off to show Octavius who he
was. I especially thought that scene was too reminescent of his final
showdown with the villian in the first movie. Mask comes off, Goblin
says, "Peter Parker...". Spider-Man 2. Mask Comes off, Doc Ock says,
"Peter Parker...".
Aside from that (which granted, is somewhat picky), I was thrilled (and
nauseous). I thought the effects were spectacular. The scenes where
Ock and Spidey were punching each other as they fell from the building
(happened twice that I noticed) were great. Spidey swinging around
(especially the very last scene) was perfection.
Makes you want to stick a spider in the microwave and then poke it with
a stick 'til it bites ya. (I'm having problems successfully getting past
that first part)
