You are saying that allowing citizens to have the same rights as other citizens is just like allowing non-citizens to have the same rights as citizens.
Or maybe you saying that gays are not "normal" citizens, and therefore don't deserve the same rights as other citizens?
This country has made class distinctions on some things. Based on age (voting, draft), country of birth (naturalized cits cannot be president), gender and race (affirmative action, divorce court). These differences are codified in law.
Do you think there should be a different set of laws for gays and non-gays? If so, what laws should be different? What rights as citizens do you think gay folk should have taken from them, and for what reason?

The problem is changing an established institution.
If marriage is not the issue, then why would anyone get married. Let's just
give everyone complete access to every right, all issues aside.
Remove all classes, labels, etc.
So immigrants, aliens, and everyone living in America will have equal
access.
