religion is at all important, the government can't condone any single
view of marriage because doing that means discrediting any religion
which doesn't have the same view of marriage. Since they can't condone
any single view they shouldn't condone any. That's been my opinion
since I was in high-school damnit! :)

Although I realize there are limits... freedom of religion can't be
absolute... at least not in the US -- for starters not without
legalizing peyote and a number of other contraban substances which I
don't see happening. ... which reminds me that I still haven't made
time to read the American Myth of Religious Freedom either...
