I strongly disagree with you. Two of the last 3 politics class I took in
college were political statistics and psychology of politics and I learned
that these polls matter. These polls matter if only because the
politicians and the media make them matter. Why is winning NH or Iowa so
important? It's because Americans don't want to back a loser. I don't
think Kerry's team should shrug off the numbers and say "These don't
matter." Of course they shouldn't panic either.
Someone already wrote this, but the incumbent has a huge advantage when it
comes to early polls. But that is generally the case because one has
branding over challengers. In this case, both candidates by now should
have branded their names enough. And if the American public is truly
unhappy about the decisions Bush has made perhaps the polls would have come
up differently.
