We lack an important respect in this country for somebody that is willing to
change their opinion in light of new evidence.  This is a basic requirement
of modern living and advancement and it's a trait I personally demand in a
leader.  Changing your mind in the face of convincing evidence is a
difficult, nobel and intelligent thing.  (and something that our current
leadership doesn't understand).

Instead we hold up those that cling to outmoded beliefs as "solid" and
"decisive" when in fact they simply set in their ways and unable to properly
face dynamic, changing situations.

It's not surprising. The sitting president will usually enjoy an advantage
in the "Strong decisive leader" question, even by people who do not support
the decisions he's made.

"Hey, his decisions sucked, but he was strong in making them."

Kerry's flip-flopping is hard to deny, though his staunch supporters will
point out that his differing points of view were based upon updated
information, or changing situations. And this could very well be valid,
smear ads won't bring up that part though. Hey, sometimes flip-flopping
indicates a willingness to correct past mistakes.

In my opinion, Kerry should cease and desist with continually playing up his
military experience. It's a valuable asset, and people should give him his
due for it....but you have to careful to keep the appearance that you aren't
playing it up TOO much.
