terrorism. I'm looking at events in Israel, Russia and other places where
innocents are being killed and the media is writing it up in words they
want. There are even cases where they take quotes and rewrite them to remove
the T word. How to you edit a quote?
Yes, the word terrorist can be misused and over used, but there are still
places where it should be applied.

Absolutely agreed.
I think the over application of the word goes hand in hand with the Bush
administrations policy of "good vs. evil", or "us vs. them". It's all black
and white. So....once they label someone "terrorrist", it's awfully easy for
them to now say "evil".....with bombs soon to follow.
Caveat: in quite a few of these cases...the people probably are terrorrists,
and probably are evil.

My problem is not with using the word "terrorist" - it's a
perfectly applicable word that works well in these contexts. My problem
is
with the idea that it's the ONLY word possible. Or, even most
specifically,
that ANY single label is that important.
I already see the word "terrorist" getting castrated from over-use in the
US. It's thrown around way too often and is well on its way to losing its
meaning and power. Even clear the root word "terror" is fast losing its
meaning. There are meaningless "terror alerts" that create more comic
fodder than security and terrorist activities" that include everything
from
bombing to encrypting your personal email.
